Paul Tixier PhD

Paul Tixier joins Sea Search as a visiting research from IRD Marbec in France, primarily working with us on our killer whale and odontocete-fishery interaction projetcs.

Paul holds an MSc in Marine Ecology from the University of Victoria (British Columbia, Canada) and Aix-Marseille University, and a PhD from CNRS (France), where he studied interactions between killer whales, sperm whales, and fisheries off the Crozet subantarctic islands. Subsequent postdoctoral work extended his research to fisheries interactions with marine mammals across Australia, the Indian Ocean, and other subantarctic regions.

In 2021, he joined the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) as a researcher, based at the MARBEC research unit in Sète, France.

His work focuses on the behavioral ecology of large marine predators and human-wildlife conflicts in the oceans, with a particular emphasis on understanding marine mammal interactions with fisheries and identifying sustainable, interdisciplinary solutions to reduce those conflicts.
