Cat (Catherine) Nadin

Originating from the UK, Catherine studied a BSc (Hons) in Zoology at the University of Leeds, achieving a first-class degree. She first joined the team in 2018-2019, when she received a distinction for her MRes on humpback whale acoustic behaviour, focusing on call sequences used by humpback whales feeding in super-groups of the west coast of South Africa. After completing her Masters, Catherine joined the team as a Research Assistant and is now our Funding Officer.

Catherine is a key team member of the African Bioacoustics Community initiative, having been on the conference committee since 2020. She was the head organiser of the 2024 African Bioacoustics Community conference and is currently leading the organisation of this year’s 2026 conference. She also facilitates and co-hosts science-art, collaborative, outreach workshops that aim to connect the community to the natural world through sound.

Catherine is also involved in various research projects, from collecting and collating acoustic recordings of African species, to increase representation in online sound libraries, to investigating seal health and behaviour.

As well as her role here at Sea Search, Catherine has a passion for writing and works remotely as a Freelance Content Creator for AZoNetwork, a leading scientific content marketing platform based in the UK.
